For Utilities, Big Results Can Be Found Through Digital Solutions

The utilities industry is experiencing a digital revolution, but it’s not too late for those who have fallen behind. In my recently published article “Leading a digital utility movement” that appeared on Electric Light & Power magazine’s website, I provide an overview of how digital transformation is playing out in the industry and offer tips on how to embark on your own journey.


A key insight from the article is that cultural inertia is typically the biggest inhibitor to innovation for utilities. I discuss the importance of understanding how digital transformation is making a difference in other industries, as well as other hallmarks of a successful change management program.


Another important takeaway is that buying new technology isn’t the only way utilities can attain meaningful results from digital initiatives. Looking at existing data and processes in new ways can yield important insights, and I provide a few real-life examples within the article.
