Sometimes, for a wide variety reasons, people will get promoted to management positions without the know-how required for the job. It might seem like a boss is incompetent, but chances are they’re trying as best they can and just need some help adjusting. They might even be well aware that they’re not up to snuff. Travis Bradberry at Inc. suggests you try and help them when they start to frustrate you:
It is important to swallow your pride and share your experience and knowledge, without rubbing it in her face. Share the information that this boss needs to grow into her role, and you’ll become her ally and confidant.
If you’re thinking of waiting for them to get fired, chances are it won’t happen. They got put there for a reason and intentionally being difficult as an employee isn’t going to help anyone. Step up and help where you can, keep from gloating, and you’ll help create a much better work environment for all.
